I wouldn’t use these exact words either, it was just a figure of speech in that post.
But I would point it out in a different, more polite way. I would try to be encouraging and constructive, tell what went wrong and where, but I wouldn’t (and never do) hesitate in telling people that they should start from scratch because their work went fubar. And I expect that from others, because if I’m wasting time on something, then I want to know so I can stop and put that time into something that will work.
