Yes, they really did have a player in a VR helmet throwing punches at a student who was blocking with a pillow taped to a board. However, the guy holding the board was not prepared for the player in the helmet to knee them in the groin.

Building Virtual Worlds is a class at Carnegie Mellon's Entertainment Technology Center. Groups of four or five students have only two weeks to make a game. It is surprising how much they can accomplish in that time.
