To start installing and using the Panda3D runtime, you first need to tell Ubuntu where to find the Panda3D repository.

Adding the repository to Ubuntu

Step 1: Type the following command in a terminal emulator:

sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys E375BC9D

Step 2: On your Ubuntu computer, open System > Administration > Software Sources.

Step 3: Click the Third Party Software tab.

Step 4: Click the Add button.

Step 5: Paste the following line and confirm: (replace "yakkety" with the codename of your version of Ubuntu)

deb http://archive.panda3d.org/ubuntu yakkety main

When prompted, reload the software sources information.

You're now ready to install software from the repository!

Installing the Panda3D Runtime package

Now that you have added the Panda3D repository, you can install the Panda3D runtime by opening your favorite package manager and selecting the "panda3d-runtime" package. Instructions vary per package manager.
